Did you know that your student intern has completed all of the required course work to become a psychotherapist? Once all course work has been completed, students working towards an MA in psychology are required to complete clinical hours to be eligible for graduation.

Psychology students completing their Masters degree must first complete their bachelor’s degree-the total of study hours for these two degrees is completion of about seven years university before students are even eligible to become a therapy intern.

Once a student is eligible to become an intern, the competition for practicum placements is fierce. On average, our clinic receives one application per week from a student interested in completing their studies as a member of our team. We spend a lot of time and energy hand picking student interns to ensure the best fit for our clinic and our clients.

Our current students are completing their studies at Yorkville University, which requires students to have 53 weeks of skills practice (a combination of indirect and direct client hours) to be eligible to graduate. Student interns require ongoing training and close supervision (in order to supervise a student intern, registered psychotherapists must meet specific requirements as well as complete specialized training), this process is a big commitment and is not for the faint of heart.

Our interns can assist with a wide range of concerns—including anxiety, depression, ADHD, stress, and more—offering clients accessible support and personalized strategies for growth and well-being.

Benefits of working with a student intern include;

Low Cost Care

Student interns provide very low-cost sessions that can support you with mental health needs. Therapy becomes accessible and affordable, allowing you to address your challenges, even if your financial resources are limited.

No Waitlist, Faster Care

Student interns often have greater availability and flexible hours compared to fully registered therapists. This means you can skip long waitlists and access the support you need more quickly.

Enthusiasm and Dedication

Student interns are passionate about helping others and bring genuine enthusiasm to their work. As they progress on their journey to becoming registered psychotherapists, they contribute fresh perspectives, insight, and energy. Their dedication and eagerness make them deeply committed to supporting their clients’ growth and well-being.

Highly Supervised

Student interns work under the close guidance of experienced therapists, receiving in-depth training and ongoing support. This ensures you receive high-quality care in a safe and supportive environment.

Focused Attention

Student interns have smaller caseloads than fully registered therapists, which allows them to dedicate more time and attention to your care. They can focus closely on your needs and work with you to address your challenges with care and intention.
